Commuters' strife on transport strike

If traditional jeepneys are to be phased out of our culture and system, what happens to commuters' journey ahead then? Will we ever reach our destination towards a progressive and inclusive country then?

Catherine
Student commuter
Catherine is a student from Philippine Normal University and rides a jeepney on her way to school. She is also a member of Gabriela.
She also encourages everyone to join the strike in support of the traditional jeepney drivers and their families.
She stated, “Mahalaga na dapat lumahok tayo sa welga ng mga drivers. Kasi eto ‘yung pinakamataas na antas ng porma ng pakikibaka dito sa kapungsuran.”

Irish
Student Commuter
Irish, a student from Polytechnic University of the Philippines shared that commuters should endlessly use their voices to invoke other people who share the same advocacy.

She also stated that she becomes a commuter every day to fight or so-called “makibaka” about such issues, including the jeepney strike.
Irish is one of the students who agrees and supports the #NotoJeepneyPhaseout.

Ruben is a second year student from the Technological University of the Philippines.
For him, jeepneys are the most simple and accessible mode of transportation in the Philippines.
He shared, “This strike is to appreciate the idea of justice and freedom.”
